Conceived as both a civic landmark and a catalyst for year-round activity, the Muğla City Platform and Exhibition Centre responds to the city’s ambition to move beyond a purely seasonal, tourism-led identity. Located at the entrance to Muğla in the Menteşe district, the project occupies a dramatic, sloping site overlooking the Akçaova Valley, characterised by dense pine woodland and significant changes in elevation.
Rather than imposing a conventional exhibition complex, the design adopts a landscape-led, multi-functional approach that preserves the natural terrain and minimises environmental impact. The scheme is organised as a “city platform” an open, publicly accessible framework that integrates exhibition spaces with social, commercial and recreational uses. Upper and lower terraces accommodate flexible public areas, meeting spaces, cafés and retail, ensuring continuous use throughout the year.
By limiting intervention and retaining the vast majority of existing trees, the project establishes a sensitive dialogue with its surroundings. More than a fairground, it creates a new civic destination a place of arrival, gathering and everyday life offering Muğla a distinct identity while setting a considered alternative to conventional development models.
